PROUD parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry showed off their new little arrival in Windsor yesterday.
While some have praised the new mum, 37, for not concealing her baby bump and looking radiant, a royal expert has claimed she looked “very vulnerable” during the shoot.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty told the Times, that Meghan revealed a more-relaxed look and we saw a new side to the duchess.
The royal biographer said: “She looked very vulnerable and charming. Quite a different Meghan, maybe motherhood has already mellowed her.
“It was a very lovely mixture of formality and informality.
“The hair was a bit messy. If she was trying to give a message — if she had the energy to give a message — it was a feminist message that you don’t have to look slim and slick the moment you’ve had a baby, which has been her mantra all the way.”
Body language expert Judi James told Fabulous Digital said that the way Meghan acted revealed she was “protective” and appeared she had “slight inhibitions” about the reveal.
She said: “Harry looked like a very comfortable, adept cradler, unlike other royal males who often hold their new babies like Ming vases although he was comfort-rubbing his own hand as well as his baby.
“Meghan’s self comfort touches suggested some slight inhibitions but -as she did during their engagement – she was the one leading the interview while placing a protective arm around her two boys.”
With the eyes of the world watching the special moment, it would be unsurprising if Meghan had some nerves, just days after giving birth.
Her body language at St George’s Hall appears to contrast her “confident” and “taking charge” behaviour when her engagement to Prince Harry was announced in 2017.
Judi said of the photocall two years ago: “Their body language signals showed that it was Meghan happily leading the show in terms of confidence and reassurance.
“Harry has never been a fan of formal posing, preferring to be the joker and prankster in the family.
“But his body language with Meghan suggests that she will be the one taking charge of the press moments during and after the engagement.”
At the time it was Meghan who rubbed Harry’s arm in a gesture of reassurance as they approached the cameras.
And each time they shifted poses, Meghan did the small tie-sign of an arm-rub to suggest she was in charge of the choreography.
The actress waved first and it was Harry who mirrored her a second or so later.
But while Meghan’s body language may have shifted slightly since their early days, some traits of Harry and Meghan appear to remain the same.
Yesterday, fans gushed as the royal pair turned away from the cameras, arms wrapped around each other and carrying their new baby, Archie Harrison.
We saw a similar glimpse of their dynamic as they walked away from their engagement shoot, and Judi said this shows how “supportive” they are of each other.
She said of the engagement shoot: “After what looked very much like a sigh of relief, they threw their arms around one another and walked off looking relaxed and happy.
“They are clearly chuffed – as they grinned and gazed into one another’s’ eyes.”
And yesterday Meghan even added in back rubs, which Judi said was like a “reward” to new dad Harry.
She said: “The back-rub is a loving leadership trait of guiding and reassuring that Meghan has used before in their relationship, this time almost using it as a reward signal.”
