FACEBOOK and Instagram are back online after suffering a mystery outage across the UK and the US.
Hundreds of users reported problems with the apps at around 5pm GMT, with many unable to access their profiles.
One Instagram user wrote on Twitter: “I SIGNED OUT BOTH OF MY PROFILES AND NOW I CAN’T GET IN.
“I have the ‘owner may have changed the password’ and ‘unknown network error has occurred’.
“Thanks insta for giving me my daily heartattack. ITS HAPPENING EVERY MONTH NOW.”
Another added: “ok instagram is down i thought i had been hacked.”
Facebook users were equally as annoyed, with one writing on Twitter: “Did
@facebook have another security breach? Mine just logged out of itself again.”
Thousands of Facebook users said they were faced with a “total blackout” just after 4pm GMT.
Users of the social network were most affected in the Philippines, and in the corners of America’s west coast, including Washington and California.
The issue was first highlighted on DownDetector, a website which monitors platforms that are experiencing technical glitches online.
The social network had already experienced a major outage yesterday afternoon.
Thousands said they were unable to even launch the messaging app.
Users were unable to see when their friends were online.
But others struggled to receive notifications.
