FORMER Chelsea ace Cesc Fabregas told police “I wasn’t going that fast” after he was caught driving 68mph in a 40mph zone today.
The Spanish midfielder, 32, who now plays for Monaco, today admitted speeding after he was pulled over by cops at a service station on December 4 2018, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard.
Fabregas, who lives in a £7m home in Belgravia, admitted driving his grey Land Rover Sport 28mph over the zone limit near the Tibbets underpass on the A3 near Wandsworth.
The star did not attend the short hearing as he is taking part in pre-season training for Ligue 1 club Monaco.
Prosecutor Simon Maughan dropped a second charge against the footballer alleging he was caught exceeding the 50 mph limit on the A3 on 26 July last year.
The Monaco midfielder was represented by barrister Christopher Martin, who was instructed by solicitor Nick Freeman.
Mr Freeman, named “Mr Loophole” for his ability to beat driving charges, is the representative for a host of other celebrities, including David Beckham.
Fabregas, who already has six points on his licence, could now face a driving ban if he receives the maximum penalty of six further points when he is sentenced by District Judge Andrew Sweet on 25 July.
